MEET JOSETTE BAILEY

"I am a proud East Point resident, living in Egan Park for five years and South Fulton for over 20 years."

I am a native of Bowdon, Georgia. I graduated from Spelman College and Georgia State University, earning a Ph.D. in Special Education and Leadership. My motivation comes from my parents who have always worked hard to accomplish their goals while considering their family and friends.

I am a former educator who has been working in the field for over 30 years. As a small business owner of a retail store, I am community focused with a heart for neighborhood growth and stability. I am a proud East Point resident, living in Egan Park for five years and South Fulton for over 20 years.

  • MISSION
I aspire to engage all to make East Point a safe place to learn, live, work and play. I will work diligently with public safety to address the root causes of crime and implement tools to promote safety. I believe in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging - which means creating a safe place for everyone to thrive. Everyone should feel as though they belong by feeling valued, heard, and apart of the discussion. Meaningful avenues for engagement are essential. I believe that the diversity of our Ward is our strength. While campaigning, I have met several amazing neighbors! It is an honor and my mission to wholeheartedly serve my fellow East Point neighbors!
  • ACCOMPLISHMENTS
As an East Point City Council Member, I am proud to share our many accomplishments in my first year. Working with fellow council members and community members has been a pleasure to work towards progress for our city. Here's What I Have Accomplished: Arranged TownHall Meetings to address constituents’ concerns by inviting department heads and the city attorney to address questions. Created neighborhood-walkthroughs for residents and business owners to visually show East Point Department Leaders areas needing improvement. Contractors are no longer required to be double bonded which follows industry-standards, resulting in more efficient permitting processes. Recommended a retreat for economic development downtown which has led to on-going training for boards to foster growth through grants and the involvement of Georgia Main Street Downtown Association. Co-organized the Presidents’ Conference of Neighborhood Associations to improve our neighborhoods through community engagement. Through Go-Green efforts, I held neighborhood classes for urban gardening and composting. Connected community programs to seniors, such as LIHEAP and LIHWAP. https://www.facaa.org/programs/liheap-2/ https://www.facaa.org/programs/lihwap-2/ https://seniorcenter.us/sc/h_j_c_bowden_senior_multipurpose_facility_east_point_ga Together, we are making East Point a better place to live, learn, work, and play. We are doing this by showing that we can be the change we wish to see and that we are better together. I am honored to being your City Council Member for East Point and look forward to creating change together!
